Mindful smiling is a concept used in many of the World Smile Games challenges. The idea is to use a specific idea such as a person you want to smile at, something good that happened today, or something you are looking forward to. It does not matter how big or small you think the idea is. Then keep this in your mind for a short period of time, whether that is a few minutes or a few seconds, and by doing that focus on something that makes you a bit happier and lifts your mood, even if it is just a little bit or only for a short period of time.

Many of the World Smile Games challenges are written based on this concept. When I was at work and things got a bit much, or the wards made me feel a bit down, time was often quite short. So I just wanted to stop and think briefly of something that made me happy before going back to work, even if it was something really simple like smiling at someone on the ward, or that I am going to see a friend that weekend, or remembering a good meal with family. And when I did go back to work I would find that things often did not seem so bad, some of the stress had lifted just a little and the day felt just that bit better.
So hopefully however you use the challenges they will improve your mood, whether a little or a lot, and for a short time or a long time, and they will help you to think of people and things that make you happy and make you smile.
